On Monday, Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts signed a proclamation declaring May as Beef Month in Nebraska.

“The driver of agriculture is the beef industry,” said Governor Ricketts.

Nebraska’s beef industry ranks nationally.

Number one:

  • Beef and veal exports
  • Commercial red meat production
  • Commercial cattle slaughter
  • All cattle on feed

Number two:

  • All cattle and calves

Number four:

  • Beef cows, number of head

According to Ricketts, last year, Nebraska exported $1.26 billion in beef exports. Each year over the last four years, Nebraska has exported over $1 billion in beef.

“We’re working every day with the dollars of Nebraska producers across the state, everyone that invests in the Beef Checkoff, to make their product more valuable to each and every household,” said Dawn Caldwell, Vice Chair of the Nebraska Beef Council.

Governor Ricketts was also joined by Nebraska Director of Agriculture Steve Wellman and President of Nebraska Cattlemen Galen Frenzen.
