A few classes to be held at Northeast in West Point and Norfolk in late April

NORFOLK – A course on cake decorating will be offered by Northeast Community College later this month.

Basic Cake Decorating I (HOEC 5180/19S & CRN #70332) will be held Wednesday, April 24, from 6-8 p.m. in Room 120 of the Utility Line Building, east of the Northeast campus on Benjamin Ave.

In this beginner level course, participants will use buttercream frosting and a little expertise to turn a basic cake or cupcake into a gorgeous dessert. Participants will receive instruction on how to prepare different types of buttercream as well as how to prepare all types of cake edging, cupcake swirls, flowers and borders. They will learn key elements to complementing buttercream, including icing cakes, pressure control piping and food color application.

A cake, cupcake and decorating kit (includes tips, spatula, cake scrapers and a flower nail) are included in the cost of the class.

Cost of the class, with Jessica Dvorak the instructor, is $55.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer a class soon to soothe and comfort the mind, body and soul with herbal home spa treatments.

Herbal Home Spa (HOEC 5160/19S & CRN #70090) will meet Thursday, April 25, from 7-9 p.m. at the West Point Technical Center, 200 W. Washington Street.

In this course, participants will learn to make herbal beauty treatments used for relaxing bath, facials, hair conditioners, skin softening and aromatherapy. They will also learn about herbs and essential oils used to relax and reduce stress. Recipes will be included for sugar scrub, mineral salts and lavender/oatmeal/almond scrub.

Cost of the class, with Rachel Liester the instructor, is $27.

NORFOLK –Northeast Community College will offer an additional course option next month for those interested in learning the basics of motorcycle riding.

Motorcycle Rider Course (TRAN 5105/19S & CRN #70015/70016) will be offered Friday through Sunday, April 26-28. Hours on Friday will be 6:30-10 p.m.; Saturday, 7:50 a.m.-5:30 p.m., and Sunday 7:50 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Classes will be held in Room 102 in the Northeast Community College Utility Line building, just east of the main campus on Benjamin Avenue.

The class includes five hours of classroom instruction and ten hours of riding instruction. It begins with the basics, such as turning, shifting, and braking. Then it moves on to more advance street riding strategies. Professionally trained instructors teach in the classroom and then coach riders in a controlled riding area.

Within 30 days of the completing the course, students are required to take the MSF Basic eCourse. Details regarding this course will be sent to students after they register for the Motorcycle Rider Course. There is no additional cost for the mandatory eCourse.

Cost of the course, with Michael Holcomb, James Jones and Tom Broekemeier the instructors, is $250.
