(AUDIO) Bancroft Public Library’s Rockin’ & Readin’ Summer Reading Program coming up later this summer

The Henrly Doorly Zoo will visit the Bancroft Public Library on Wednesday, June 27th to kick off the library’s Rockin’ and Readin’ Summer Reading Program. Laci Fitch, Summer Reading Program Coordinator, says kids will be able to learn about and interact with animals. “They’ll be here at 2:00 there on the 27th. And they always bring in a couple animals for us to see, and sometimes we get to touch a few, which is great. They brought in snakes last year, and a very large rabbit. And they kind of let him hop around and let the kids look at them. And they gear it towards the Summer Reading Theme. So they’ll be talking about sounds of the animals and things like that.”

Rockin’ and Reading will also be held the last three Wednesdays in July.

Fitch says July’s events include painting and building.”We are going to build instruments so a lot of us when we were in grade school built rubber band guitars in music class and things like that. So we are collecting recyclables like kleenex boxes and pringles cans and things like that to build those items. And then on the third day we’re going to have a concert in the park using those instruments. So that’s the first interpretation. Secondly, we are going to bring rocks into the building to paint and then leave them around town. And we’re going to do that on our Facebook page where people can take pictures when they find them and leave them in different spots around town, and all that sort of stuff.”

Fitch says instruments will be built on July 11th, rocks will be painted and dispersed around town on July 18th, and the Concert in the Park will be held on July 25th.

She adds there will be a drive-in movie sometime in August in which kids will get boxes to sit in and decorate to look like cars.

There will be a sign up sheet at the Henry Doorly Zoo event, but people are still welcome to come to the July events even if they miss sign up on the 27th.

She adds prizes like Star Trophies will be given away for reader of the week, and there will be a couple drawings at each event as well.
