An estimated 250 people turned out Saturday morning for the Trails and Pathway Committee’s “Pave the Path” family walk.

Registration began at 8 am after a stormy night and participants then took a stroll through a portion of Wilderness Park, where breakfast and inflatables for the kids awaited them.

Committee member Terry Nelson announced a $250,000 donation from the Nielsen Foundation.  Director Jeff Baldwin was on hand for the event.

In all, the committee has raised $600,000 in six months toward the $1.3-million goal.

Other donations include$50,000 from Gwen and Dick Lindberg, $50,000 from F&M Bank,  a $50,000 anonymous gift, and a $20,000 donation from Charter West.

For $10,000 donors can also have a bench put along the pathway in someone’s name.

The committee is challenging 100 young people to give $500 over five years to show their commitment to the project and to show other foundations in the area the support the project has.
