Several hundred people braved the cold weather on Veterans Day to attend the dedication of the new American Veterans Park on Main Street in West Point.

It’s a tribune to all veterans across the United States, those who served  for a little while or for a lifetime; those who served during peace and those serving during times of war.

It’s mission is to honor God, honor country and honor veterans and their families.

Almost $1 million was contributed to create the memorial on a formerly vacant Main Street lot that was donated by F&M Bank.

Donations came from 37 states, accordingto Vaughn Beed,  a member of the committee. Contributions to add two more bronze sculptures and more tiles honoring veterans are still being sought.
