At Tuesday night’s West Point City Council meeting, the council decided to move ahead with the Lower ElkhornNRD with JEO Consulting Group for work on the West Point levee system. Their services will move forward to complete the design to the bidding project on a schedule of about two years at a cost of about $494-thousand, with a cost share with the Lower Elkhorn NRD. The overall project for the levee system will be around $4-million with the city’s obligation at $2-million. It may be funded thru a general obligation bond. That’s yet to be decided.
The council also discussed the water issues. Crews were in over the weekend to clean the storage tanks which are in good condition and will be good for another for a few years before they need to be re cleaned. City Administrator Tom Goulette says they continue to work with the Department of Health and Human Services regarding the approval of the plans and specs for a new filtration system and corrosion control. Tom says some residents are still going to see a little discoloration of water for a while.
