The West Point Beemer school board held a public hearing last night on its proposed budget and is expected to approve it next Monday night.

Superintendent Bill McAllister says the budget asks for about half-a-million fewer tax dollars than last year and the year before, largely due to the closing of the Beemer facility, since staffing makes up about 80 percent of the budget.

Valuations are up 3 1/2 percent and the tax levy is down 6 1/2 percent.
