One person killed in two vehicle accident on Highway 26 west of Scottsbluff

An elderly Morrill woman has died in a two vehicle accident west of Scottsbluff on Highway 26.

Shortly after 4 p.m., authorities were called out to a two-vehicle  accident near the Sportsman Inn near County Road 19.

The Nebraska State Patrol says the fatality was the driver of a blue Dodge Neon that was northbound on County Road 19  and failed to yield as it entered Highway 26. The Patrol says an eastbound white Ford sedan driven by a Gering man was struck by the Dodge as it entered the highway.

Traffic on Highway 26 was being diverted in both directions during the accident investigation.

The names of the two people involved have not been released pending notification of relatives and the condition of the Gering man is not known at this time.

The Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Department, Nebraska State Patrol, Scotts Bluff Rural Fire Department, and Mitchell Police Department were all on scene.
