Governor Pete Ricketts will be in Bayard this coming Friday, November 16th to celebrate the Sparks grant awarded to the Bayard Public Library so they can provide fast broadband internet to Bayard students.
Using fixed wireless technology and antennas on the top of the library and the school, the connectivity will offer the students and staff the ability to access the school district’s network within the public library.
Librarian Becky Henkel told KNEB News, “We have a homework hot spot where the internet is only hooked up at two computers for the students, or if they have an I-Pad which is school issued for 9th through 12th grade they can log on to the school internet at the library. They can use it after school hours or the weekend to get their homework done. ”
The grant was made possible by the Nebraska library commission and is part of $25,000 awarded to five smaller Nebraska communities to kindle partnerships between schools and libraries.
Governor Pete Ricketts will speak at 10 a.m. at the library as part of a community open house.
