Buffalo County fatality

Kearney, Ne. — The Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a two-vehicle crash on Friday afternoon on Highway 30 east of Kearney that resulted in the death of an adult male and minor injuries to a male teenager. The crash occurred one-quarter mile west of the intersection of Ravenna Rd. on Highway 30.

Preliminary investigation by the Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office indicates a westbound 2003 Toyota Echo lost control and crossed into the  oncoming lane where it collided with an eastbound 2007 Dodge Ram pickup. The driver of the Toyota, 30 year old Ignacio Machado Rosario of Gibbon, died at the scene.

The pickup driver, a 17 year old from Hastings, was transported to Kearney CHI Health Good Samaritan Hospital, treated and released. The sheriff’s office says weather and road conditions may have been a contributing factor in the crash.

Members of the Buffalo County Fatality Accident Investigation Team, Kearney Police Department, Gibbon Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad, Buffalo County Attorney’s Office, Paramedics of the CHI Good Samaritan Health Systems and Nebraska Dept of Transportation assisted at the scene.

A portion of Highway 30 near the crash site was closed for a number of hours during the investigation. The Buffalo County Attorney has ordered an autopsy.
