Sheridan County authorities have confirmed the sighting of a mountain lion within the Gordon city limits about 6:00 this morning and are advising caution for residents of the Gordon area.
Sheridan County Attorney Jamian Simmons says a Gordon household’s security camera caught footage this weekend of a mountain lion just outside the house near 1st and Maple Streets with the latest footage about 4:30 this morning.
Simmons says around 6 a.m. a Gordon officer, a sheriff’s deputy, and a USDA representative identified a location where the big cat may have been bedding down and a short time later saw the animal off 1st Street, close to the Cowboy Trail.
They were able at that time to confirm it as a mountain lion, but it was able to evade them. Simmons says efforts to track down the mountain lion are continuing with Nebraska Game and Parks notified as well.
