Commissioners, FCI negotiating maximum price on detention update

Commissioners, FCI negotiating maximum price on detention update

The $4.6 million expansion to the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center is progressing, but not without some big decisions on what will be included on the final costs.

County Commissioner Chair Mark Masterton says F-C-I , the company hired as the “Construction Manager at Risk” for the project is currently figuring out the gross maximum price for the project.

Masterton says F-C-I’s estimated price is a little higher than what the Commissioners were hoping for… so they are fine tuning what will be included in it. He says as they work on their “optimal engineering”, they may have to take out certain things like expanded office space and a specific work release area …but Masterton says the meat and potatoes of the project- the addition of 72 cells and a medical unit- will stay.

F-C-I will come back to the commissioners on June 15th to make sure they’re getting the price locked in. The commissioners want no more than $4.5 million and lower if possible. June 6th is another big date when the State Jail Standards Board considers approving the renovation  plans .
