Elwood voters defeat swimming pool bond issue

Elwood, Neb. — Elwood voters turned down a bond issue to pay for a new municipal swimming pool in a special election on the Gosper County General Election ballot. The vote was 129 in favor and 180 against. The current pool was determined to be deficient and the wading pool does not meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards, according to an engineering firm.

In the County Commissioner race for District 1,  Terry Lerdall received 213 votes to 83 for Cherese Barnes.

For three seats on the Elwood School Board, with Dawson and Gosper votes combined, William Brell received 470 votes to 397 for Jeff Moore and 380 for Kristy Diefenbaugh. Cassie Wendlund received 281 and Lacie Frazho received 252.

For three seats on the Eustis-Farnam School Board, with Dawson and Gosper County votes combined, Tyler Pieper received 125 votes, Sharon Portenier 111, Neil Jack 85, Michelle Fasse 77 and Shannon Rupe 65.

Gosper County had 1,453 registered voters for the election. The Gosper County Clerk’s Office reports 846 voted for a  58.22 % turnout.
