Cozad, Neb. — Cozad Fire & Rescue was called to a residence fire at 7:22 a.m. on Wednesday. Assistant Fire Chief Gary Banzhaf talks about the fire at 1510 J Street …
Assistant Fire Chief Banzhaf: “It was a two-story house here located in Cozad…the back-end of the house was basically fully engulfed…coming out of the roof and the windows when we got there. Firefighters quickly extinguished that. And then basically we were standing by to watch for hot spots to flare-up. And then we called the Nebraska Fire Marshal’s Office in for investigation.”
Banzhaf says the house, which was unoccupied, sustained heavy smoke damage and had several rooms burned out of it. No one was injured. Cozad firefighters finished with the call at 12:27 p.m. Banzhaf says the State Fire Marshal is continuing to investigate to determine the cause of the fire. Cozad Fire & Rescue was assisted by Cozad Police Department and the Nebraska State Patrol. Cozad Fire & Rescue had 13 firefighters at the scene, 2 pumpers, an ambulance and a crash truck.
Banzhaf says Cozad Fire & Rescue Firefighters did an excellent job of getting the fire knocked down and bringing it under control in a hurry.
