Fischer supports North Korea summit, pullout from Iran nuclear agreement

Senator Deb Fischer says she’s glad President Donald Trump is thinking out of the box and has decided to meet with North Korean President KIm Jong Un in an effort to eliminate that country’s development of nuclear weapons.

Fischer was in Scottsbluff Saturday evening for a campaign stop at the Elks Lodge and believes the president can be successful in meeting his goals.

Fischer says an agreement would provide stability to the region, but also cautions the President he needs to know exactly what he is agreeing to.

Fischer told KNEB News ” it depends how you define de-nuclearization, it may mean something different to North Korea  than it does to the United States.  When you look at their ballistic missile testing program they have been conducting for many years, and really have seen a lot of technological advances in recent months,  we need to know who we are negotiating with, he’s a ruthless dictator. ”

Fischer said she supported the President’s decision to pull out of the Iran nuclear agreement, saying” it only put Iran’s development of nuclear weapons on hold and didn’t end it.” She hopes the Senate can vote on a new treaty “to make sure it is effective, in the  United States best interest and will calm that region in the world. We don’t need a nuclear Iran.”

Fischer said she also also expects the Senate version of a new Farm Bill to come out of the Ag Committee soon. She says the priority should be crop insurance and reducing regulations.

Fischer also believes a new trading agreement with Mexico will happen soon, but indicated one with Canada as part of an overall NAFTA agreement will probably take a little longer.
