OMAHA, Neb. (AP) _ Omaha’s tallest building _ the First National Tower downtown _ has been ordered evacuated after cleaning solution fumes spread throughout the building, sending several people to the hospital.
The Omaha World-Herald reports that the evacuation was ordered Thursday morning, snarling traffic on streets surrounding the 633-foot tall tower where about 2,000 people work.
Officials said at least 11 people were taken to hospitals _ one in critical condition.
First National Bank spokesman Kevin Langin says workers were using a de-scaling solution Thursday morning on a humidifier connected to the building’s air system when the fumes were reported. Officials initially called for the first 17 floors to be evacuated, but expanded that to all floors before 11 a.m.
