A 53-year-old Gering man has been arrested and charged following an allegation of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl.

Court documents show that Eliezer “Eli” Sanchez is charged with one count of 3rd Degree Sexual Assault of a Child, a Class 3A Felony.

An investigation begin in July after the girl’s therapist reached out to the Nebraska Health and Human Services child abuse hotline. The report said that the girl had disclosed that Sanchez had inappropriately touched her in 2016. During a subsequent CAPstone interview, the girl said the alleged incident occurred in a spare bedroom in the home and he told her “to not tell anyone” and that “it was their secret.”

When investigators met with Sanchez, he denied ever touching the victim and that she was lying or had mental health programs. He agreed to take a polygraph at Nebraska State Patrol, and reportedly failed the polygraph.

A warrant for Sanchez’s arrest was issued on Friday, and he is now scheduled to make his first appearance on the charge Monday afternoon in Scotts Bluff County Court.
