A 32-year-old Gering man has been charged with felony child abuse after excessive spanking that bruised and left a hand-print on a three-year-old child.

Court documents say the child’s mother brought the bruising to the attention of Police, saying Lawrence Tarr was the only one with her son when the alleged injuries occurred. The mother told Police the bruising on the boy’s left shoulder and arm and the hand print on the left side of his back, bottom, and hip were not there when she left for work. The mother said the adults argued about the spanking and Tarr said he did it because the child was throwing fits.

During an interview with Police Tarr said he didn’t mean to bruise the child but later indicated he struck him too hard.

If convicted Tarr could be sentenced to up to three years in prison.
