A Gothenburg father and stepmother are each charged with two counts of felony child abuse in connection with a Dawson County Sheriff’s Office investigation into child abuse allegations involving two girls. The couple, a 61-year-old man and 60-year-old woman, has since been released from the Dawson County Jail after bonds of 10% of $50,000 was posted for them. Their next court appearance in Dawson County Court was set for May 10, 2018 at 2:00pm.
The investigation began in October 2017 on an intake that a 16-year-old girl had been kicked out of her home by her step-mother and had been living in friends homes. A Sheriff’s Office report indicates she did not have access to her medication nor financial means of support. Confrontations had taken place in the family home with the stepmother. A younger sister reported being locked in her room along with physical abuse.
