An investigation is underway following the death of a Scottsbluff man who died while in custody of local law enforcement before the weekend.

Scotts Bluff County Attorney Dave Eubanks says an autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday for 23-year-old Corey Green, who died Friday.

Court records say Green was served with an arrest warrant shortly before 3:00 p.m. Friday afternoon by Scottsbluff Police, and Chief Kevin Spencer says the man was taken to the Scotts Bluff County Detention Center, where he was booked into custody.

Eubanks tells KNEB News an ambulance was summoned to the jail, and Green was loaded into the vehicle to be taken to Regional West Medical Center. He says at this point in the investigation, it was unclear if the man passed during transport or at the hospital.

Eubanks says he’s in the process of putting together an investigative team, and a grand jury will be convened to look into Green’s death as required by state law. Eubanks says he expects toxicology results from the autopsy to be received in a couple of weeks.
