Keystone Wildfire still zero percent contained

Keystone Wildfire still zero percent contained

A wildfire that ignited in south-central Wyoming on Monday holds continues to burn; but its growth was minimal on Thursday.

Due to increased cloud cover, the Keystone fire in the Medicine Bow National Forest was slow moving, but still has affected more than 1,300 acres.

With increased resources and a slight break in the weather, firefighters were able to take a more offensive approach to work the fire. Containment lines were scouted and fire managers have been able to place crews in areas where they can safely build containment line.

On Thursday evening crews utilized a burnout operation to prevent the spread of the fire to the north. Structure defense remains a priority and evaluation and assessments continue around properties.

Helicopters were able to work all day Thursday, assisting ground crew in extinguishing hot spots.
