Local effort helps distribute free hams for holiday dinners

Thanks to a generous donation, 400 ham dinners were being distributed free of charge Tuesday morning at Gary’s Cleaning and Restoration in Scottsbluff to anyone needing a Thanksgiving dinner.

Owner Roger Franklin, who heads the annual “I Can, You Can, We Can” food drive,  told KNEB News he received a call from Conscience Alliance, an affiliate who distributes food, clothing and youth support to the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and the Lame Deer Reservation in Montana.  Franklin says they had a couple pallets of hams left over if he could help distribute them to those who might need a holiday meal.

Franklin says he was busy Sunday afternoon finding freezers to put the ham in and support for handing out the hams.

He said the giveaway was advertised only through word of mouth, social media and some help from Potter’s Wheel, Grace Chapel and Rock Church.

As of just after 9 a.m. Tuesday, Franklin said there were plenty of hams remaining, and encouraged anyone needing a holiday meal to stop by before they were gone.
