Lola Gonzales to leave Scottsbluff YMCA at the end of February 2019

It’s now official:  Lola Gonzales will be leaving the YMCA in Scottsbluff at the end of next February.

Confirmation of Lola’s departure was announced to volunteers Thursday at the Y’s Community Support Campaign Victory luncheon.

However, Gonzales tells KNEB News just because she’s ending her role with the YMCA after 43 years, it doesn’t mean the end of her career. “The Lord opened up doors, and I’m going to pick one of those doors and I’m going to be out in the community,” says Gonzales. “So it’s isn’t closing the door, the Lord did not close the doors, (but) opened it up to a little bit more of being out in the community again.”

Gonzales says her departure after 34 years of spearheading the community campaign will give her more time to spend with family as well.

She says she will be forever grateful to Gordon Schaub and the role he played as a mentor for becoming a leader of volunteers with a passion for people, families and the community. “It instilled in me, watching him work and watching him go out there,” says Gonzales, “And still, every time I do a campaign, I go back to ‘where did I learn, where did I get all this passion of how to face people, how to go after a donation, and tell them what our ‘Y’ is about’, it’s Gordon.”
