Major spring storm to hit the region Thursday and Friday

Major spring storm to hit the region Thursday and Friday

A  strong spring storm will enter the region this evening, bringing good precipitation to the region, including heavy amounts of snow to the higher elevations.

Meteorologist Mark Heuer says the storm will encompass a wide area and everyone in the panhandle and southeast Wyoming will see close to an inch of rain and possibly up to two and a half inches.  Heuer says the rain could cause some flooding of streams and bring the North Platte river closer to the top of its banks

Heuer says elevations over 5,000 feet will see snow, including LaGrange, Pine Bluffs and Cheyenne, where 10″-18″ of wet, spring snow is expected. Heuer says winds gusting to 40 miles per hour and temperatures falling to the freezing mark and below in the mountains will make conditions dangerous for livestock and motorists.
