Nearly $13,000 raised during Union Bar Veterans Day fundraiser

Nearly $13,000 raised during Union Bar Veterans Day fundraiser

$12,875 was raised Sunday as the Union Bar held a fundraiser intended to make the holidays a little brighter for returning servicemen and women.

In previous years, The Union Bar in Gering has offered a free meal to veterans, but owner Scott Swanson says this year they opened the meal to the public, along with other fundraising activities as part of the Operation Ride Home project by Jack Daniels. Swanson says the project raises money to bring service people home from their base

Among the veterans enjoying the meal  and the fundraiser Sunday were Ralph Marquez and Gary Batt.

The meal from 11 to 2 Sunday afternoon was $8 for the public- free to veterans who could also make a goodwill offering- followed by a raffle and silent and live auctions.

100 percent of the proceeds will go toward Operation Ride Home, which again helps brings service people home from their base
