Nebraska unveils 20-year development plan for Capitol campus

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) _ Nebraska officials have released details about a 20-year development plan for the area surrounding the state Capitol, which calls for the construction of a new facility for the state Supreme Court.

The Lincoln Journal Star reports that consultants have been working with the state’s Department of Administrative Services and the city of Lincoln to propose a vision for a Capitol campus since 2016. The recently released plan aims to consolidate space, bring agencies together and provide a more attractive workplace to improve recruitment.

Consultants say in order for the state to compete with private-sector jobs, amenities need to be considered as complementary to office space. The consultants recommend a fitness center, dining options, day care and wellness areas, in addition to new office facilities.

The plan would be completed in phases.
