Northeast to hold April classes at West Point and Norfolk Campuses

A number of classes will be held at Northeast Community College’s West Point and Norfolk Campuses next month. Class information can be found below:

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer a Microsoft Excel class specially designed for business, beginning soon.

Microsoft Excel 2016 For Business (INFO 5115/19S & CRN #70146) will meet Tuesday, April 1, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, Room 212, at 202 Anna Stalp Avenue.

In this class, participants will discover business-specific skills in Microsoft Excel. They will learn to navigate the Excel user interface, perform basic calculations with formulas and functions, professionally format spreadsheets and create visualizations of data through charts and graphs. Spreadsheet software is one of the most common forms of software used in workplaces around the world, and learning to confidently operate Excel means organizing businesses for optimal productivity.

Cost of the class, with Diann Ballard the instructor, is $60.

WEST POINT – A new course at the Northeast Community College West Point extended campus is designed for those interested in developing the foundation necessary for leadership skills and presence.

Supervisory Success: Take Your Leadership To The Next Level (LEAD 5125 & CRN #70157) will meet Tuesday, April 2; Tuesday, April 16; Wednesday, May 1; and Tuesday, May 14, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m. in Room 102 of the West Point Technical Center, 200 W. Washington St.

Participants will be given practical knowledge and insight on a number of different leadership skills and behaviors that will help them move from their current emerging leader or manager/supervisor positions to one of a confident, capable leader. They will explore pathways to increase their effectiveness in areas of accountability, influence, empowerment, communication, team building, time management and conflict management.

Cost of the training is $440.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer an introductory course on acrylic painting, beginning soon.

Acrylic Painting – May Flowers (ARTS 5163/19S & CRN #70085) will be held two consecutive Wednesday, April 3, from 6:30-9 p.m. in Room 104 of the West Point Technical Center, 200 W. Washington St.

Led by instructor Vanessa Throener, this class will teach participants how to mix and blend colors while painting flowers on a canvas. No prior painting experience is required.

Cost of the course is $35. Supplies are included in the cost of the class. Participants are asked to bring an apron to protect clothing.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer an intermediate course on Quickbooks Pro 2018 next month.

Quickbooks 2018, Level 2 (ACCT 5300/19S & CRN #70321) will be held two consecutive Wednesdays, April 3 and 10, from 6-9 p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Center (LLC). Kristina Osborne is the instructor.

The course covers creating inventory, dealing with items and adjusting inventory counts on a continual basis. Students will learn about sales tax and sales tax groups, paying sales tax, running payroll and paying payroll liabilities. Creating capital assets and loan accounts, as well as discussion on dealing with bad debt, will also be covered.

Cost is $60.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College will hold a class soon that introduces learners to photo editing with Adobe Lightroom software.

Adobe Lightroom Photo Editing (ARTS 5190/19S & CRN #70313) will meet Thursday, April 4, from 6-9 p.m. at the Lifelong Learning Center on Northeast’s Norfolk campus.

Participants will learn to perform editing and image processing and share their best images in a variety of creative ways. The class uses a hands-on approach, and all participants are asked to bring 10 of their photos to class on a flash drive as well as their own cameras. Instructor Elley Coffin will show participants some simple how-tos as they edit their own personal photos.

Cost of the class is $30.

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Department at Northeast Community College in Norfolk has announced two free, one-session workshops for emergency medical service technicians during the month of April.

The workshops are offered for three continuing education credits. They will be held from 7-10 p.m. Both workshops will be conducted in local fire halls.
