Northeast to hold late October and early November Classes

Classes are scheduled for late October and early November at Northeast Community College’s West Point, Norfolk, and South Sioux City Campuses. Class information can be found below:

NORFOLK – A course at Northeast Community College will welcome the holidays with a wood pallet decoration class.

Reversible Pallet Craft – Santa & Snowman (HOEC 5135/18F & CRN #60382) will be held Wednesday, October 24, from 6-9 p.m. in Room 105A of the Weller Building on the Norfolk campus.

In this do-it-yourself class, participants will create a reversible Santa and snowman wood pallet craft, with Santa painted on one side and a snowman on the other. Each pallet will be assembled and ready to paint and decorate with participants’ own flair and style.

Cost of the class, with Russell Flaming the instructor, is $42. All supplies are included.

NORFOLK – A new course at Northeast Community College will welcome the fall season with a fun craft.

Wine Bottle Scarecrow (HOEC 5135/18F & CRN #60507) will be held Thursday, October 25, from 6:30-8 p.m. in Room 105A of the Weller Building on the Norfolk campus. Sue Strathman is the instructor.

Participants will paint a wine bottle and add a scarecrow face, a burlap hat and some finishing touches with raffia and ribbon.

Wine bottles and all supplies will be included in the cost of the class. Cost is $23.

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Division at Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a Basic Life Support (BLS) course for healthcare providers later this month.

BLS for Healthcare Provider Course (HLTH 5300/18F & CRN #60080) will be held Saturday, October 27, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. in Room 105 of the Arlo Wirth Building on the Norfolk campus.

This course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize a number of life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. A BLS for Healthcare Providers course certification card will be issued upon successful completion.

Cost of this class, with Brock Soderberg the instructor, is $60. The textbook for the course is available in the Hawks Shop in the Northeast Student Center, (402) 844-7140.

Pediatric Basic Life Support and First Aid (HLTH 1730/18F & CRN #15281) will meet Saturday, October 27, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. in Room 103 of the Arlo Wirth Building on the Norfolk campus.

The course is designed to prepare students to perform Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on infants and children, relieve a foreign body airway obstruction from infants and children as well as basic first aid. The training meets the requirement of the American Heart Association for Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation.

Cost of the class, with John Liewer the instructor, is $58.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer a class next month that introduces participants to personal cloud storage.

Cloud Storage (INFO 5260/18F & CRN #60202) will meet Monday, October 29, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. in Room 212 of the West Point Extended Campus, 202 Anna Stalp Avenue.

In this class, participants will explore the personal cloud storage services, sometimes referred to as online backup services, that allow for file sharing and collaboration. They will learn how to safely store presentations, files, pictures and other types of documents and make them accessible from any device at any time. Popular services to be discussed include iCloud and Dropbox.

Cost of the course, with Pattie Schinstock the instructor, is $30.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer a Microsoft Excel class specially designed for business, beginning soon.

Microsoft Excel 2016 For Business (INFO 5115/18F & CRN #60203) will meet Tuesday, October 30, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, Room 212, at 202 Anna Stalp Avenue.

In this class, participants will discover business-specific skills in Microsoft Excel. They will learn to navigate the Excel user interface, perform basic calculations with formulas and functions, professionally format spreadsheets and create visualizations of data through charts and graphs. Spreadsheet software is one of the most common forms of software used in workplaces around the world, and learning to confidently operate Excel means organizing businesses for optimal productivity.

Cost of the class, with Diann Ballard the instructor, is $60.

SOUTH SIOUX CITY – Northeast Community College in South Sioux City has scheduled a class that will introduce students to a fun way to keep fit.

Zumba! (HPER 5115/18F & CRN #60160) meets Tuesdays, October 30-November 20, from 5:45-6:30 p.m., in Room 126 of the South Sioux City Extended Campus, 1001 College Way.

A combination of Latin dance and other forms of dance fitness, Zumba is a one-of-a-kind fitness program that helps participants achieve long-term benefits while experiencing a blast of clamoring-burning, body-energizing and awe-inspiring movements meant to engage and captivate.

Cost of the class is $30.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College will hold a class soon that introduces learners to photo editing with Adobe Lightroom.

Adobe Lightroom Photo Editing will be meet Thursday, November 1, from 6-9 p.m. at the Lifelong Learning Center on Northeast’s Norfolk campus.

Participants will learn to perform editing and image processing and share their best images in a variety of creative ways. The class uses a hands-on approach, and all participants are asked to bring 10 of their photos to class on a flash drive as well as their own cameras. Instructor Elley Coffin will show participants some simple how-tos as they edit their own personal photos.

Cost of the class is $30.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer a beginning class on sign language next month.

Sign Language For Fun (INFO 5155/18F & CRN #60204) will meet two consecutive Thursdays, November 1 and 8, from 7-8:30 p.m. in Room 211 of the West Point Extended Campus, 202 Anna Stalp Ave.

In this introductory course to American Sign Language, participants will learn the various beginning signs. The two sessions will touch on manual finger spelling (alphabet), numbers, colors, people, places and food signs. Some basic conversation skills will also be covered.

Cost of the class, with Tessa Recker the instructor, is $30.
