Northeast to offer more April Classes

Northeast Community College announced on Friday that more classes will be held at their West Point and Norfolk Campuses. Class information can be found below:

 

NORFOLK – The Allied Health Division at Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer two Basic Life Support (BLS) courses for healthcare providers in April.

BLS for Healthcare Provider Course (HLTH 5300/19S & CRN #70242) will be held Saturday, April 6, from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. in Room 105 of the Arlo Wirth Building on the Norfolk campus.

This course is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize a number of life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. A BLS for Healthcare Providers course certification card will be issued upon successful completion.

Cost of this class, with Ethan Larson and Bradley Korth the instructors, is $60. The textbook for the course is available in the Hawks Shop in the Northeast Student Center, (402) 844-7140.

BLS for Healthcare Provider Renewal (HLTH 5305/19S & CRN #70108) will be held Wednesday, April 10, from 6-10 p.m. in Room 101 of the Arlo Worth Building.

Designed for a wide variety of healthcare professionals, this course is designed to refresh skills related to recognizing several life-threatening emergencies, providing CPR, using an AED and relieving choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. Participants are asked to bring their current certification card to the class.

The required textbook is available at the Hawks Shop at the Northeast Student Center, (402) 844-7140.

Cost of the class, with Bradley Korth the instructor, is $40.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer a Provisional Operator’s Permit Driver Training course in April.

Drivers Education (TRAN 5110 & CRN #70039/70040) will meet April 6-14. Class will be held, Saturday, April 6, from 8 a.m.-1:30 p.m.; Saturday, April 13, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.; and Sundays, April 7 and 14, from 1-6 p.m. in Room 206 of the Northeast Community College West Point Extended Campus, 202 Anna Stalp Avenue. Six required hours of driving experience will be arranged between the student and instructor.

This is a Provisional Operators Permit (POP) driver training course for individuals 14-17 years old. Students much have a learner’s or school permit and must bring it with them to the first class. Parents and guardians are asked to accompany the student to the first part of the first class.

Cost of the class, which includes a textbook, is $295. Dan Loofe is the instructor.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a beginning Microsoft Excel class in April.

Microsoft Excel 2016 – Level I (INFO 5115/19S & CRN #70331) will be held Tuesday, April 9, and Thursday, April 11, from 6-9 p.m. in the Lifelong Learning Center (LLC). Stacy Anderson is the instructor.

In this course, participants will explore the essentials of Microsoft Excel 2016 to analyze, manage and share data of all kinds. They will learn to construct and modify worksheets, incorporate formulas and functions, navigate worksheets and workbooks with ease and use simple functions and formatting techniques to evaluate and organize data effectively.

Cost is $60.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College will offer another intensive six-week Professional Truck Driving course beginning next month.

The course (TRDR 5100/19S & CRN #70023/70024) will be held Monday-Friday, April 11-May 24, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. in the Utility Line/Truck Driving building, Room 104, directly east of Northeast’s main campus in Norfolk.

In this course, students will learn to operate articulated vehicles in a training environment that includes driving on city streets, two-lane and interstate highways. The program includes 240 contact hours, 44-plus hours of behind the wheel training and 190 hours of classroom, lab and observation.

Students will go for night drives and long runs. This means being gone for a week, overnights and
14-hour days.

Cost for the course, with Ed Lewis and Ryan Cook the instructors, is $1,995. Tuition does not include the cost of books, Department of Transportation physical, drug screen, MVR report, learner’s permit or the CDL license. WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer two continuing education courses for insurance professionals next month.

Insurance: The Dilemma Game (35749-NE; 86610-IA) (INSU 5195/19S & CRN #70099) will be held Thursday, April 11, from 9 a.m.-12 p.m., at the West Point Technical Center, 200 W. Washington Street, in Room 102.

This three-hour continuing education ethics course is designed to support good decision making. Participants will examine four case studies and discuss ethical decisions.

Insurance: The Changing Game of Claims (36584-NE; 100677-IA) (INSU 5210/19S & CRN #70098) will be held Thursday, April 11, from 1-4 p.m. in the same location.

In this three-hour general studies continuing education course, participants will discuss underwriting in the black box, optional auto product endorsements and how driverless vehicles can affect claim management in auto insurance.

Cost of each class, with Laurie VanderWal the instructor, is $45.

WEST POINT – Northeast Community College in West Point will offer a class on Adobe Lightroom, beginning soon.

Adobe Lightroom (ARTS 5190/19S & CRN #70089) will be held two consecutive Thursdays, April 11 and 18, from 6-9 p.m. in the Northeast Community College Extended Campus, Room 212, at 202 Anna Stalp Avenue.

In this introductory course, participants will learn how to take images out of their camera and edit them. They will explore how Lightroom presets work, how to edit their own images and how to add them to Lightroom. Participants will need to bring their own cameras to class along with a memory card with 10 of their own images on it.

Cost of the course, with Erin Beutler the instructor, is $60.

NORFOLK – Northeast Community College in Norfolk will offer a non-credit class next month to equip 14-17-year-olds with the basic skills to operate a motor vehicle.

The Provisional Operator’s Permit (P.O.P.) Driver’s Education Course (TRAN 5110/19S & CRN #70167/70168) will be held Sunday, April 7, from 12:30-6 p.m.; Wednesday, April 10 and 17, from 6-8:30 p.m.; Saturday, April 13, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m.; and Sunday, April 14, from 1-6 p.m. The class, with Lorie Summers the instructor, will meet in Room 401 of Norfolk High School, 801 Riverside Boulevard.

The class includes 20 hours of classroom lecture. The required driving lab hours will be arranged between the instructor and the student.

Students are asked to bring their learner’s or school driving permit to the first class. A book will be provided. Students must sign up for both the lecture class and the driving sessions. A parent or guardian is asked to attend the first part of the first class along with the student.

Cost of the class is $295.
