Oregon Trail Community Foundation helps Midwest Theater purchase spotlights

A $2,500 grant to Friends of the Midwest Theater from the Oregon Trail Community Foundation helped the Midwest Theater purchase a pair of follow spotlights to meet the needs of artists who perform on the historic theater’s stage.

Midwest Theater Executive Director Billy Estes said the lack of follow spotlights created difficulties in managing details of the theater’s performing arts season.

We’ve had to drive down to Denver to rent spotlights for some of our performing artists, which can get really dicey in the winter,” Estes said. “Because we have a fairly long throw distance from the back of the theater to the stage, we couldn’t always find the right equipment when we needed it. With these new follow spots, we’ll have more of what our artists need in-house.”

A perfect example of the type of artist who needs follow spotlights is the holiday show by the world-class singing group The Ten Tenors, who will take the stage at the Midwest Theater on Mon., Dec. 10, at 7:30 p.m.

It’s been great to see our new follow spots in action,” Estes said. “I’m grateful that Oregon Trail Community Foundation was able to help our historic theater building book a high-caliber act like The Ten Tenors.”

Fewer than 140 tickets remain for The Ten Tenors show. Tickets are on sale in the Midwest Theater office at 1707 Broadway, over the phone 308-632-4311, or online at
