The city of Gering appears to be moving toward filling its vacant Parks Director position.

The council’s Personnel Committee Thursday voted to recommend employing a new Parks Director following the retirement of long-time director Ron Ernst.

Committee Chair Pam O’Neal said it was important department heads and supervisors recommended moving forward with getting a successor as part of their overall roles with the city.

O’neal said, “”Those guys do a really good job for us so I think it is important for us to listen. ”

O’Neal said it was the fiscally responsible thing to do to review the position and the need for it.

The committee’s recommendation will be forwarded to the full council for their consideration.
