On Monday in Stanton County District Court the following men were sentenced to prison terms. Louis Grutell 59, of Norfolk was sentenced to 18 to 36 months in prison following his conviction in a jury trial this year for Driving While Intoxicated. Grutell was arrested last year by the Stanton County Sheriff’s office near Hwy 24, just east of Norfolk. This was Grutell’s fifth conviction for DWI. Grutell immediately appealed his conviction by posting a $7500.00 cash bond and was released pending the appeal process.
Cody Stone 20, of Stanton was sentenced to 18 months in prison following his drug conviction for possession of a controlled substance (Xanax). Stone was arrested last August in Stanton by the Sheriff’s office.
Benton Giffrow 26, of Wayne was sentenced to 3 to 6 years in prison following his conviction for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Sawyer Giffrow, 22, of Wayne was given a term of 5 to 9 years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm. Jacob Mahnke, 50, of Wayne was also sentenced to a term of 5 to 9 years for also being a felon in possession of a firearm. All three were arrested last September following an investigation by the Stanton County Sheriff’s office that also included a search warrant and recovery of more than a dozen stolen firearm’s and other property taken in a rural burglary near Pilger.
Meghan Bayne, 33, of Norfolk was sentenced to two years of probation and ninety days in jail following her conviction for attempted possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine). She was arrested last years by the Sheriff’s office following a traffic stop east of Norfolk.
