A recount in the Scottsbluff City Council race is underway this morning at the Scotts Bluff County Administration building.

Following last week’ certification of the general election results by the county canvassing board, just 18 votes separated third place finisher Jeanne McKerrigan and incumbent council member Jordan Colwell,  with 1,610 and 1,592 votes received, respectively.

Those 18 votes amounting to one percent of the total votes cast for Nathan Green, who received the most tallies in the race with just over 1,800 ballots, causing the automatic recount.

The process is expected to be about the same as during the work of the canvassing board, with the exception the candidates can be present and only the ballots from the 8 precincts that make up the city of Scottsbluff will be counted.
