United Way of Western Nebraska and First State Bank have once again partnered to host the 6th annual United Way Color Dash on June 23rd in Gering.
1,000 runners are anticipated to participate in the colorful 5K for runners of all levels, and will be completely transformed by vibrant color by the time they finish.
This year they will be featuring a Crazy Color Costume contest and will be awarding a top prize from Sam & Louie’s Pizza for the Craziest and most Colorful costumes.
They are also offering discount rates for groups where teams of 5 to 9 racers will receive a 10% discount, and teams of 10 or more will receive 20% off.
During the race route, participants will run through color stations. At each “Splash Station” volunteers will throw handfuls of colored corn starch based paint on runners as they pass by. The paint is non-toxic and biodegradable. Participants will enjoy pit stops throughout the race as well, where local businesses and sponsors will be passing out goodies. And they will enjoy a color dance party after they cross the finish line. A live DJ will play music as professional photographers capture the colorful transformation of each runner.
As a non-competetive run or walk event, the United Way Color Dash attracts runners of all ages, fitness levels and experience. The 5K fun event will begin and end at Five Rocks Amphitheater in Gering. The course will wind through Gering where the public can purchase paint to throw on the participants.
Registrations are now open, however only 1,000 entrants will be accepted. United Way is encouraging everyone to register early to ensure a spot in the fun and charitable event. If registrations are completed by June 11th at midnight, participants will receive a discounted rate. Registrations can be filled out online at unitedwayofwesternnebraska.com or through the United Way of Western Nebraska Facebook page. Forms can also be picked up at First State Bank in Scottsbluff.
