The 25th Annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Dawson County recently received a stamp of approval from the Gothenburg City Council to celebrate a quarter century of fighting cancer in 2019. The event theme will be “25 Years of Finding Silver Linings” with the event planned for Friday, June 21, 2019 at Ehmen Park in Gothenburg.
“Cancer may cast a dark cloud when someone is newly diagnosed or going through treatments, but the American Cancer Society continues to hold a bright beacon of hope for a cure. Relay For Life also breaks through the clouds to show everyone a beautiful silver lining of support and celebration,” said Pam Ackerman, Event Leadership Committee member. “Everyone touched by Relay can be assured they are making a difference in providing research, education, advocacy and patient services to their family and friends, as well as to so many others they will never know. The fight is real, but together we can be so powerful!”
Relay For Life Event Leadership Team and Team Captain Meetings will start monthly beginning Monday, January 21. Anyone interested in learning more about Relay For Life, helping with the event or wanting to organize a team is encouraged to attend the meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the Gothenburg Senior Center, 410 20th Street. Invite family and friends to attend as more volunteers are needed to plan this community owned event.
Team captains may register teams at www.relayforlife.org/dawsoncone. Captains then encourage or help team members to register online. The new and improved web site is designed for quicker and easier registration for teams and participants. A manual fill-in form also will be available at the event planning meetings. These can be used for cancer survivors or for team members. To receive a form, contact Sara McCarty, ACS Staff Partner in Kearney, at 308-237-1631; or Pam Ackerman at 308-324-2230.
