Rural Lyman man who left family disturbance hospitalized after rollover

A rural Lyman man who left a family disturbance after reportedly firing shots and eventually rolled a pickup on a county road in western Scotts Bluff County was taken to Regional West by Air Link this afternoon.

Sheriff Mark Overman told KNEB News the injured party suffered significant injuries but still had a pulse after the pickup traveling at a high rate of speed rolled a couple times, landing on its top in a ditch. Overman says the accident happened on County Road R a mile and a half west of Stegall Road as the man and a westbound postal carrier going the opposite direction swerved to miss each other at the crest of a hill.

The postal carrier and a family member in a vehicle following the injured party found him. Deputies trying to locate the pickup plus emergency personnel from the Lyman Rural Fire Department quickly arrived to treat him.

Overman said he did not know the man’s name but his Deputies are in the process of investigating. They initially responded to the area because family members had reported an emotionally disturbed person and needed assistance.
