Search remains active for Mitchell man sought by authorities

The search continues for a Mitchell man wanted in Scotts Bluff County on a variety of charges, including sexual assault of a child and possession of a controlled substance.

Sheriff Mark Overman tells KNEB News a request for tips from the public two weeks ago did generate some leads on the location of 34-year-old Joseph Anaya,  however none of them led to his arrest. “We’ve had some indication he could be here, we’ve had some indication he could be in other places, but we’re exploring that information too,” says Overman. “The warrant is a felony warrant, so it’s good outside the state of Nebraska.”

Anaya had posted bond in late September and failed to show up for subsequent court appearances.  He’s described at 5’7″, 200 pounds with brown eyes and black hair.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts can contact their local law enforcement agency…. anonymous tips can be left through the the Sheriff’s “text-a-tip program” at, or by calling Scotts Bluff County Crime Stoppers at 308-632-STOP (7867).
