SUV driver killed in collision with pickup near Beatrice

Beatrice, Neb. —  Authorities say one person died and another was injured in a collision just south of Beatrice in southeast Nebraska.

Firefighters, medics and deputies were sent to the intersection of U.S. Highway 77 and West Lilac Road a little before 2 p.m.

Wednesday. Deputies say it’s unclear what happened, other than a northbound pickup truck on the highway collided with a sport utility vehicle that had been westbound on Lilac.

Authorities say the SUV driver was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as 18-year-old Shawn Vraspir.

The pickup driver was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries thought to be non-life-threatening. She was identified as 47-year-old Sadie Saunders, of Topeka, Kansas.
