Kearney, Neb. — Since the first of November, the City of Kearney has seen a spike in theft’s from motor vehicles. There have been 37 reported thefts in this time frame. Most of the vehicles were unlocked and spare change was taken.
Kearney Police Department (KPD) says although they’ve received reports from all over the city, the majority of these thefts are focused along the center corridor of the city from east to west, south of 45th Street and north of 25th Street.
KPD says thefts from vehicles generally increase this time of year, however they’ve received more than usual this year. They are asking everyone to lock their vehicles and remove any valuables from them.
Purses left in vehicles are a huge target and contain not just currency, but identification documents. If you see anyone suspicious loitering in your neighborhood, you’re urged to give KPD a call at 308-237-2104 or 911.
