Nov. 30 recount set for close Scottsbluff Council election contest

November 30th has been set for a general election recount in Scotts Bluff County, involving the race for the third vacant spot on the Scottsbluff City Council.

The Scotts Bluff County Canvassing Board finished their certification late Tuesday, and the abstract of their official tally showed only 18 ballots separated third place finisher Jeanne McKerrigan and incumbent council member Jordan Colwell.

Election Commissioner Vera Dulaney tells KNEB News that meets the one percent requirement in state law, and Colwell has not waived his right for a recount. “The wish is up to the candidate. They can accept the recount and we will go forward,” says Dulaney, “or they can say they don’t wish to have a recount and we will just stop there.”

Dulaney says written notifications about the recount should go out to the affected candidates this week.

The vote totals according to the Canvassing Board abstract were Nathan Green at 1,813 votes, 1,708 for Terry Schaub, McKerrigan with 1,610 and 1,592 for Colwell.
