Volunteers are need to ring the bells and staff the red kettles of the Salvation Army this holiday season.
The fundraising effort starts the evening of Thanksgiving, with 90 percent of the proceeds raised staying local.
Carmen Trevino with CAPWN says portion of that is shared with the Scottsbluff and Gering Police Departments to help those in need who may be passing through the area, with the balance going to CAPWN. “And we are able to help folks with a portion of rent, sometimes utilities, prescription assistance, transportation for medical needs, and sometimes special needs that folks have,” says Trevino.
There will be four locations needing bellringers each Friday and Saturday through December 22nd at Walmart, Main Street Market, the Monument Mall in Scottsbluff and Fresh Foods in Gering. With one-hour shifts, about 15 volunteers would be needed for each bell ringing station daily, and Trevino says no donation is too small, as pocket change can add up fast.
