YORK – The first drive of the game for York set the tone. A 65 yard touchdown pass from Garrett Snodgrass to Wyatt Cast put the Dukes on the board first and they never looked back, downing Blair, 50-28.
York scored on every drive in the first quarter except one. After forcing the Bears on a three and out, the Dukes found the endzone on their very next drive. On the seventh play of the drive, Snodgrass rumbled into the endzone from 33 yards out. After forcing three turnovers the week before, the Duke defense would match that number Friday night. Brady Danielson made an acrobatic play midway through the first and picked off Blair. That set York up in prime field position and allowed Jacob Diaz to grab his first touchdown of the game on a 26 yard run. Two drives later, Diaz would cough up the football for his first turnover of the game.
The second quarter would start with a York touchdown. Making up for his fumble, Diaz would score for the second time with a 40 yard touchdown run. The Dukes would find the endzone one final time before heading into the locker room. Their next drive, Snodgrass would take it in himself from only four yards out. To end the first half, Blair would turn it over two more times, both Danielson interceptions and the Dukes’ Diaz would fumble it one more time. However, it was York who took a healthy, 35-0 lead into the half.
Blair would suddenly come to life in the second half, but not before York would take in another score. Snodgrass would take to the air to start the third period and once again found Cast open in the back of the endzone for a nine yard touchdown pass. Finally, the Bears would answer. After a long drive, Blair punched it in from nine yards out on a Josh Klanderud touchdown. The Bears would actually go on to score the next three times they touched the ball.
To start the fourth, Blair QB, Stuart Cemer would sneak in from five yards out. York would answer one more time. On his first carry of the game, Michael Heinrich blazed 83 yards untouched for his first varsity touchdown. Blair would then turn to their backups and would prove to be the right call. Jason Stewart would throw two touchdowns to make it a respectable game for the Bears.
The Dukes have won 14 straight and eight straight at home.
York moves to 2-0 on the season and will host McCook next Friday. Blair drops to 1-1 and returns home to host Skutt.
