A rainy day turned sunny. Then rainy with lightning. Then the wind died down and the sun peaked back out.
All the mattered for the Gering Lady Bulldogs was the final score; 3-2.
Gering knocked off Kearney Catholic to win the B-8 Sub-District title match at Memorial Stadium.
Lady Dogs Head Coach, Henri Prieels had this to say about his teams performance last night.
We had the match for you on KNEB.tv, Allo 15, and Mobius 1500.
Gering’s all-time leading scorer, Brittney Spreier, had the lone goal of the first half, a beautiful left foot strike from outside the box at the 26:52 mark.
1-0 the score at halftime and that’s when the rains and lightning came forcing a delay of over an hour.
Once the second half started the action never really stopped.
Catholic’s Sydney Owen tied the match with a long ball at the 22:50 mark of the half but nearly 60 seconds later it was Gering freshman, Aspen Shields, with a back of the netter to put Gering back in front 2-1.
The Stars weren’t done attacking though and this time with 13:22 to play it was Kaylee Grieser scoring to even things up at 2-2.
True to second half form the Lady Bulldogs were quick with the response.
Off a set-piece with 10:35 left in regulation it was sophomore Allison Maschmeier drilling the game winner off the hands of the KC netminder.
With the win Gering automatically qualifies for the round of 16 District Final tomorrow.
