YORK – Aurora swept both games Friday night in the first meetings between the Dukes and Huskies. The Aurora girls (1-4) won, 41-35 and the Husky boys (5-0) dominated York (3-1), 63-42.
It was the first win of the season for the Aurora girls basketball team. With virtually a new roster, it took some time for the Huskies to find their groove. Taking advantage of early turnovers by York (3-2) and limiting the Dukes to only two points in the third quarter, Aurora prevailed after losing to York all three times last season. Maya Nachtigal led Aurora with 13 points while Megan Snyder contributed 11 points. York’s offense could never get into a rhythm, scoring their second lowest number of points this season. Hailee Pohl finished with 11 points, but all of her damage came in the first half. Natalia Dick and Maddie Portwine each finished with six.

The Aurora boys were dominant from start to finish. The one-two punch of Cade Reichardt and Baylor Scheierman would prove to be too much for York to handle. Reichardt was red hot out of the gates for the Huskies with 14 points in the first quarter, eventually finishing with 16. Scheierman took the game over in the second quarter in leading his team to the win, finishing with a game high 26 points. Aurora’s defense was just as good, forcing York to take numerous uncomfortable shots and shut down their inside game. Losing for the first time since Jan. 27 (also to Aurora), York was led by Brady Danielson’s 16 points. Garrett Snodgrass contributed eight points and Jeb Lucas finished with seven.
