YORK – The York boys will have a chance to defend their state championship after qualifying for the Class B state tournament on Monday night. The Dukes obliterated Platteview, 54-19 in the B-5 District Final.
The game was tied at 2-2 early on, but then York’s defense silenced the Trojan offense, only allowing seven total points in the first half. Platteview would only score four in the first quarter, three in the second, eight in the third and three points in the fourth quarter. It was a combination of great York defense and missed open shots by the Trojans that would be their demise.
On the offensive end, six different Dukes scored with two scoring in double figures. Brady Danielson led all scorers with 19 points while Garrett Snodgrass chipped in 14 points. The balanced offensive attack inside the paint and outside the perimeter would give Platteview fits all night long.
The Trojans were led by Trey Brotzki’s seven points. Josh Fryar and Evan Kingston each scored five points. For a team that thrives on the three ball, Platteview only converted two.
Platteview ends the year at 17-9 overall. York improves to 21-4 overall and will be making their 42nd trip to the state tournament. The Class B state tournament runs March 7-9.
