Briar Cliff Men beat Bethany

The Briar Cliff men’s basketball team moved to 3-0 on the season when it beat Bethany College 92-80 Saturday afternoon in its second road contest of the weekend. The Swedes fall to 2-1.

Jay Wolfe matched his career high with 34 points in the game, including seven three-point baskets. He also grabbed 13 rebounds. Jackson Lamb added 17 points and Erich Erdman chipped in 13 to go with four assists. Kyle Boerhave dished out five assists.

“Today was a great win after a short turnaround from last night,” said head coach Mark Svagera. “Our guys played with a lot of resiliency and answered every run Bethany threw at us. It was a good weekend for us and we’re excited to start GPAC play next week.”

Isiah Saenz scored 27 points for the Swedes and Tyler Larkin added five assists.

The Chargers went 30 for 61 in field goal shooting for a percentage of 49. The team was 16 for 33 (49%) from behind the arc and 16 for 19 (84%) from the free throw line.

Bethany was 40% from the field, 31% from the three-point line and 73% in free throws.

Briar Cliff will be on the road again Wednesday as they travel to Jamestown for the first GPAC game of the season. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
