Briar Cliff Men picked to finish 2nd in GPAC; Women picked to finish 9th

The Briar Cliff men’s basketball team landed in second for the GPAC men’s basketball preseason coaches’ poll, released on Monday by the league office.

Morningside received 10 first-place votes to sit atop the poll with 100 points. Briar Cliff received the only other top billing and 90 overall points.

The Mustangs finished last season with a 14-4 league record to claim the conference title, while the Chargers were just one game back at 13-5. Both teams ended their seasons in the quarterfinals of the NAIA DII National Championship in Sioux Falls, SD.

Briar Cliff begins the season with a road game against Presentation on October 29. The Chargers first home contest is scheduled for November 10 against Concordia. The team begins conference play on November 7 against Jamestown, the first GPAC game for the Jimmies since entering the league this year.

 

Briar Cliff received 48 points in the GPAC preseason women’s basketball coaches’ poll to sit at ninth in the results.

The poll was released Monday by the league with Concordia topping all teams with 119 points and nine first-place votes. Defending national champion Dakota Wesleyan received the other three first-place votes and was picked second by the coaches.

The Chargers begin the season with a home non-conference meeting with Dakota State at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, October 30 at the Newman Flanagan Center. The team begins league competition with a road game against Jamestown on November 7.
