A strong third set wasn’t enough for the Briar Cliff women’s volleyball to come back over Mayville State Friday night and the Chargers fell to the Comets 3-1 (24-26, 19-25, 25-19, 22-25).
“We had too many unforced errors tonight,” said head coach Trevor Schirman. “That was the difference in the match.”
The Cliff recorded 57 kills and 31 errors on 151 attacks for a hitting percentage of .172. Victoria Gonzalez tallied 14 kills for the blue and gold and Analyse Stapleton added 13 in the loss. Courtney Schafer and Grace Whitlaw followed with seven K’s each. Whitlaw also took part in seven blocks. Victoria Johnson’s 13 kills led Mayville State.
Meyer and Maureen Imrie shared setting duties as Meyer finished with 30 assists and Imrie recorded 22 helpers. Jana Mehus was Mayville State’s go-to setter and recorded 40 assists.
Mayville State moved to 8-7 on the season while Briar Cliff slips to 7-5. BC will look for a win Tuesday night against GPAC foe Dordt College in Sioux Center, Iowa. That match is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m.
