Briar Cliff Volleyball Goes 2-0 on Day Two of Johnson and Wales Tournament

The Briar Cliff women’s volleyball team went 2-0 on day two of the Johnson & Wales Tournament behind 21 total kills from Courtney Schafer.

The Chargers went down two games to none to Pacific University in their first matchup of the day but rallied to win three straight and take down the Boxers in five sets (22-25, 17-25, 25-16, 25-20, 15-13).

Schafer and Victoria Gonzalez led the team in kills in the contest with 11 each. Briar Cliff earned a .164 overall hitting percentage with 46 kills and 22 errors on 146 attacks.

Delaney Meyer dished out 23 assists to go with six digs and three service aces, followed by Maureen Imrie with 15 helpers, 10 digs and six service aces. Danielle Coronado recorded 18 digs, six assists and one kill as the team’s libero.

Karlee Duncan led the Boxers with 17 kills. Ellie Parker gave out 46 helpers and had two service aces. Pacific University is now 5-3 on the season.

Briar Cliff swept George Fox University in the second game of the day (25-20, 25-19 25-19).

Schafer and Gonzalez again led BC with 10 and nine kills, respectively. Meyer assisted 18 times, had 8 digs and recorded 3 service aces. Coronado’s 18 digs led the Chargers on defense. Gonzalez and Olivia Tomlin each took part in four blocks.

Danyle Dupray and Ashtyn Bulter each had eight kills for the Bruins. Madison Ross and Laney Search shared setting duties and dished out 29 total assists. George Fox is now 6-2 in 2018.

Briar Cliff moves to 6-3 on the year and will be back in action Tuesday night against Dakota Wesleyan at the Newman Flanagan Center. Opening serve is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
