Briar Cliff Volleyball loses at Dakota State

The rough patch of games in October continued for Briar Cliff’s women’s volleyball team as the Chargers dropped a 3-1 decision to Dakota State Tuesday night in Madison, SD.

The loss was the sixth straight for the team to fall to 1-8 on the month with the regular season finale to take place Wednesday in a GPAC meeting with Dakota Wesleyan in Mitchell, SD.

The Trojans came out strong and while the Blue and Gold stepped up its play late in the match, it wouldn’t be enough as Dakota State went on to the 25-13, 25-19, 21-25, 28-26 final.

Meyer also had 11 digs in the contest. Maureen Imrie shared setting duties and tallied 17 assists with nine digs.

Danielle Coronado finished with the most digs for the Cliff with 13. Brooklyn Tolliver and Harlee Wagoner each had 11 digs. Olivia Tomlin assisted on three of the team’s five blocks.

Dakota State attacked with a hitting percentage of .224, compared to just .135 for BC. The Trojans outkilled the Chargers 54-49, while also holding a significant edge in service aces (7-1) and blocks (10-5).

The win bumped Dakota State to 15-12 on the season. Briar Cliff dropped to 11-15 and will take its 5-10 GPAC record to the Corn Palace Wednesday night with hopes of sweeping the season series against the Tigers.
